Pilgriamages > Buddhist Religious > Leh

434 kms. from the Vale of Kashmir to Laddakh is Leh and the road is surfaced most of the way. It follows the Indus River for much of the distance. Buses run along this way daily during summer season and take two days with an overnight stop at Kargil.

Leh is small enough to make finding your way around very easy. There's one main street with the Leh Palace rising up at the end of it. The bus station and the jeep halt is at the end of it. The bus station and the halt is on the southern or airport side of the town. The airport with its steeply sloping runway, is several km out of town near Spitok Gompa.
